Shari joins John Knox Presbyterian as our Interim Sr. Pastor on August 15, 2018. Below is some information on Shari’s background. We are very much looking forward to having her lead through our next season as we continue our mission of “Shaping generations to lead lives that reveal God’s grace.”

Shari grew up in Renton, WA where she was active in church and Youth Life. She received her BA in Political Science and European Studies from Seattle Pacific University. After a season in Washington DC, she earned a Master’s degree in International Affairs at Drew University. Shortly after completing post graduate study in New Delhi, India, Shari met her husband Craig in Alaska. Gig Harbor is home base for the Monson family. Here she served as Minister for Missions, Operations, and Strategy at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church for many years. During this time she earned her MDiv at Fuller Theological Seminary.

Shari feels a deep calling to serve congregations in the midst of change as an intentional interim pastor. She has served as Interim Head of Staff/Sr. Pastor in Chehalis, WA at Westminster Presbyterian Church, in Spokane, WA at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, and most recently in West Seattle at West Side Presbyterian Church. Her well-worn passport illustrates a passion for bringing hope to people experiencing change, crisis, conflict, or living in poverty. Recently she led a Thai Folk Drama Troupe to minister in the Holy Land bring a Gospel message of hope for healing and reconciliation to diverse audiences in Israel and the West Bank. She serves on the Board of Directors at Medical Teams International, and is President of the Board of the Thai Christian Foundation.

 

Jonathan (Jon) Saur

Jonathan Saur was raised in Mission Viejo, CA. He graduated from Westmont College in 2006 with a B.A. in Communication Studies and from Fuller Seminary with a M. Div. in 2015. Before going to seminary, Jonathan worked as a congressional staffer for Congresswoman Lois Capps. During seminary, Jonathan worked full-time as the Director of Youth Ministries at Presbyterian Church of the Master in Mission Viejo, CA.

Jonathan is an avid Lakers fan. He enjoys reading Biblical studies, theology, history, and literature of various genres. He has a strong passion for the proclamation of the Word of God, being a part of the life of a congregation, and educating the people of God for the mission of God.

Carys Parker, Middle School Ministries Coordinator

Carys grew up on a hospital ship in West Africa until she was 18. After graduating the Mercy Ships Academy she moved to Spokane WA to attend Whitworth University where she studied Theology and Psychology. She spent her first year out of college volunteering as a Chaplain back on the ship during its ten month stay in the nation of Cameroon. During this time her main focus was creating and running a youth group for the kids aboard. Carys now lives here in Normandy Park, she is a full times Mdiv student at Fuller Seminary and the Middle School Youth Group Coordinator for John Knox. Carys loves video-editing, biblical history,  putting WAY too much whipped cream in her coffee and hanging out with her objectively cutest dog in the world Bernie. She’s in her office Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons so feel free to stop by!

Rachel Morris

Director of Worship, Music and the Arts

Rachel was raised in Hobart, WA. She graduated from Whitworth University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (Ministry Emphasis) and is currently pursuing her Master of Divinity at Fuller Seminary. Before coming to John Knox, she served on staff at Maple Valley Presbyterian Church in Maple Valley, WA and Knox Presbyterian Church in Spokane, WA. She has also worked as a choral accompanist and private voice and piano teacher throughout the Greater Seattle area.

In addition to music and the arts, Rachel is passionate about walking alongside others as they discover who God has created them to be and the unique ways they have been equipped to serve in the world. She is also passionate about encouraging and developing the next generation of leaders.

Rachel is grateful to live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest where she can enjoy hiking, cheering on the Sounders, drinking good coffee, as well as reading on rainy days or being outside on our perfect sunny days (when we get them).

Hollie Robins-Jennings

Hollie is a Washington State native, born and raised in East Wenatchee. She attended Wenatchee Valley College and Eastmont High School concurrently, leading to graduation from both in 1998. After graduation, she joined the U.S. Navy serving onboard the USS Shoup. After her enlistment was up she spent a year and a half in Fairbanks, AK working government-civilian contract. Not being a fan of Fairbanks cold weather, she relocated to Seattle in 2006 where she met her future husband Tim the same year. She has developed her career in management in nonprofit with multi unit management experience. She holds a degree in Business Management from Washington State University.

Hollie enjoys a variety of hobbies including cooking, sewing and gardening. She lives with her husband, kitty Loki and parakeet Lady in Tukwila, WA and is very excited to contribute to the John Knox family/community.

Kristine Jung

Preschool Director and Director of Children and Family Ministries

Kristine graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in Education and a teaching certificate.  She taught for 6 years with the Tukwila School District and during that time earned her Master’s Degree from Lesley University with a focus on Creative Arts integration.

Kristine has been a member of John Knox for over a decade and has served John Knox families in many roles including that of Nursery Director, Sunday School and JAM teacher, VBS volunteer, small group leader, and Elder.  Kristine and her husband, David, have 3 energetic, enthusiastic, and sometimes exhausting children who have been part of all of these programs as well, so she brings not only the experience of teaching but also that of a parent.  She is very excited to partner with you in this ministry.

Melody Fuchigami

Hi, I am Melody Fuchigami.  I was born and raised in Normandy Park, spent 20+ years in California where I married my husband Mike and had my three daughters; Chanel, Calli and Hannah.  Asking Jesus into my heart at the age of five during a neighbor’s VBS started my lifelong relationship with Christ.

My degrees are in general studies and transportation, which have led me on a varied career path.  That diverse path equipped me to wear many hats at JKPC, from Sunday school teacher, CFM coordinator, even a couple of stints as Interim Preschool Director.  I started with the Preschool in the summer of 2002, and as the Preschool has grown, so has my involvement.  It is so exciting to see students we had at four years old now teenagers; volunteering at VBS and going on mission trips!

 

Suzy Lindeke

Suzy VanHout Lindeke has served as Executive Assistant/Office Manager of John Knox since August 2000. Before arriving at JK, she served her home congregation, Resurrection Lutheran (RLC), for 11 1/2 years beginning as the Church Secretary and later serving as Assimilation Coordinator. She and her husband, Dale, also served as worship leaders for 30+ years and continue to be active in church leadership at RLC.

Suzy was born in Jakarta, Indonesia where she lived for a year and a half. Being an “INDO” (Dutch/Indonesian), her family moved to the Netherlands for a time. Several years later, the family immigrated to America. They were sponsored by a Presbyterian church and landed in Corvallis, Oregon. Her dad was offered a position in the Seattle area and the family moved once again settling in Des Moines.

Suzy and Dale have two adult children and three grand-daughters. They enjoy spending time with family/church family and teaching Ballroom and Latin Dancing and going out to local dances.

Marianne Lee

Bookkeeper

Marianne has a degree from WWU and attended JKPC some years ago, before moving over to Marine View Presbyterian. She did bookkeeping work for several small non-profits and private clients before beginning at John Knox in 2008 as a contract bookkeeper.  She and her husband have a daughter and a son. She loves working with the staff and congregation at John Knox, and her children loved the JK Preschool when they attended there.
