John Knox Founded as a Mission Church
Did you know that John Knox Presbyterian Church was founded as a "mission church"? Even the architecture in the Chapel is patterned after early-day Presbyterian churches.
While the building plans are typical of early day mission churches, there is nothing standard about John Knox’s commitment to missions. We have been uniquely God’s hands and feet from the beginning, demonstrating His love in word and deed.
Just two years after founding, John Knox began it's time honored tradition of sponsoring refugees by welcoming the Paul Simonyi family from Yugoslavia. Since then we have sponsored countless families through Refugee Ministries.
In addition to supporting long-established organizations such as Wycliffe Bible Translators, Mercy Ships and Mission Aviation Fellowship, John Knox members have inspired many new ways to serve the Lord.
Tape Ministries NW? Founded by John Knox member Crystal Bullis, who recognized the need for good Christian materials for the blind and handicapped. The Highline Food Bank? Organized and operated by John Knox folks until its incorporation as a nonprofit and subsequent move to its present location at 4th Avenue South.
And our Honduras Partnership, celebrating 25 years helping the poor in the slum barrio of Flor de Campo, is one of the greatest missional movements of this church. Over 80 John Knox people have visited Honduras since 1986, providing hope in the form of housing, microbusinesses and student scholarships.
And the list goes on. Currently, John Knox supports 29 ministries around the world. And with the 10% tithe from the Building Our Lives for God initiative, more opportunities are on the horizon.
Below you will find links to the ministries that we partner with locally and globally.
We invite you to visit their websites and discover ways in which you can work with them in obedience to the Great Commission. (Matthew 28:19-20)
