Dr. John Thompson, a Professor of Historical Theology at Fuller Seminary, will be visiting JKPC and giving a public lecture on Saturday, January 11 at 2pm. The title of his presentation is “What’s really worth fighting over?: John Calvin on the Essentials of the Christian Faith.” Dr. Thompson will guide us through the Christian beliefs that famous church reformer John Calvin thought it was okay to compromise on and those that Christians can’t compromise on. On Saturday evening, January 11th John Knox Presbyterian Church will be hosting a special gathering with professor and historical theologian Rev. Dr. John Thompson. The evening will kick off at 6pm with appetizers. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm, with a presentation from Dr. Thompson on “Conscience” and the Presbyterian tradition. A time of Q&A is sure to be one of the highlights of the evening. Festivities will end at 8:00pm. Tickets are $25/person. Childcare and a kid friendly meal are provided at no extra cost. Dr. Thompson will also be preaching at both Sunday morning services on January 12 at 8:30am and 10:30am.
Dr. Thompson serves as Professor of Historical Theology and Susan Byker Professor of Reformed Theology at Fuller Seminary. His areas of expertise are Reformation History, gender issues, historical theology and John Calvin. Dr. Thompson will be teaching us about John Calvin’s understanding of the essentials of the Reformed faith and what they mean for us today.
