Education is not primarily a heady project concerned with providing information; rather, education is most fundamentally a matter of formation, a task of shaping and creating a certain kind of people. What makes them a distinctive kind of people is what they love or desire—what they envision as ‘the good life’ or the ideal picture of human flourishing.— James K.A. Smith-Desiring the Kingdom
A counter-cultural dimension of the Christian faith is that our vision of “human flourishing—‘the good life’”—is embodied in Jesus’s pattern of dying and rising. Jesus calls us to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything [he] commanded.” (Matthew 28:19-20) We could teach everything Jesus commanded in one afternoon (information); learning together to obey everything Jesus commanded is a lifelong process (formation).
Life groups, learning opportunities and other meetup events are primary locations for the connection, service and growth that characterize followers of Jesus who are being formed in his image to participate in God’s purposes for life in the world. We are guided by Scripture, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and supported and challenged by one another. For more information about Life groups, learning opportunities and other happenings for adults, please contact Pastor Jonathan (Jon) Saur.
We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.— 2 Corinthians 4:10
