The Spiritual Formation of Adults
The goal of Adult Ministries at John Knox is to grow us into the image of Jesus Christ.
This involves the transformation of our hearts and minds which results in lives devoted
to the worship of God, identification with the community of God’s people, learning the way of discipleship, service to the body of Christ and commitment to the mission of Christ in the world. Opportunities for Spiritual Formation with the John Knox community are described below. SUNDAY MORNINGS
Preaching and Teaching
– Sr. Pastor Rev. Dr. Bryan D. Burton – The core of adult spiritual formation at John Knox comes through the preaching and teaching ministry at the 9:00 AM and 10:45 AM Sunday Morning Worship Services and enhanced by the Spiritual Formation Classes. Please check out the Sermon Library which contains past Sermon notes and audio recordings. Also, audio CDs are available on Sunday mornings to share with others.

Sunday Adult Class
“The Letter to the Hebrews is our most detailed and vivid working out of the impact of Jesus’ suffering and death. In the letter, all Christ’s suffering and death is distilled into salvation prayer for all who suffer and die, which is to say, for all of us.” – Eugene Peterson, Christ Plays in Ten Thousand Places

The Letter to the Hebrews engages both ends of the biblical canvas as it seeks to look back into the First Testament as a means of understanding the New. To study this letter is to dare to plum the depths of many of the great themes of the Gospel: sacrifice, faith, grace, and holiness. The letter not only reveals the supremacy and finality of Jesus Christ in ways no other New Testament writing does, but at the same time, beckons those who would follow Christ to truly die and live in and through Him.

You’re invited to join us on this journey of discovery and discipleship.

ADULT GROUPS AND RESOURCES

Life Groups: What are Life Groups? They are complementary to our times of corporate worship and service together. They are a place to help people connect relationally to the community of faith; where they can grow toward full devotion to Christ and where they can reach out to others with His love.

In a large church like John Knox, Life Groups help us to get smaller as we grow bigger, to foster intimacy, maturity, and accountability as followers of Christ. Life Groups are the place where one can be grounded in truth while staying real with life; where what we believe is aligned with what we practice. They involve study, prayer, relationship, and service.  Groups meet in homes, coffee houses, or even here at JKPC. Gatherings take place anywhere from weekly to bi-weekly to once a month and normally last an hour and a half to two hours.  There are groups for women, men and couples. For more information about all the Life Groups and Adult Formations contact Gregg Baklund.

Women’s Life Groups will be studying the book of Luke using Beth Moore’s study “Jesus the One and Only”. Groups will meet Monday nights and Thursday mornings with childcare on Thursdays. Contact Marsha Baklund or Della Hoag with any questions.
